The 5 APRA Risk Domain Framework
The composite risk index is computed using five methodological pillars:
| Domain | Weight | Key Indicators |
|---|---|---|
| Domain 1: Plastic Load | 30% | Surface plastic debris coverage, drainage accumulation, and annual throughput. |
| Domain 2: Fragmentation & Degradation | 30% | Brittleness score, UV radiation exposure, mulch residue burning, mechanical tillage shredding. |
| Domain 3: Environmental Pathways | 20% | Field slope gradient, proximity to streams/rivers, flood susceptibility. |
| Domain 4: On-farm Management | 15% | Farmer practices: material sorting, open burning vs collection, covered storage. |
| Domain 5: External Influences | 5% | Municipal waste collection access, distributor input return schemes. |
Risk Classification & Action Priority
- High Risk (> 60.0): Priority Intervention:
YES. Severe accumulation of brittle plastics with direct environmental channels into waterways. Demands urgent remediation. - Moderate Risk (40.0 – 60.0): Priority Intervention:
MONITOR. Moderate vulnerability requiring waste separation education and formal collection access. - Low Risk (< 40.0): Priority Intervention:
NO. Controlled plastic stewardship or minimal synthetic plastic inputs.
🎯 Expected Results
Users can interpret the final composite risk score (0-100) and determine whether immediate intervention is needed.
⚠️ Common Pitfalls & Troubleshooting
Assuming scores are simple arithmetic averages. The engine applies tiered weights (Domain 1: 30%, Domain 2: 30%, Domain 3: 20%, Management: 15%, External: 5%).
